Stone Temple Pilots Reveal ‘Disturbing’ Scott Weiland Song

(Story about www.alternativenation.net)

Stone Temple Pilots drummer Eric Kretz discussed how Scott Weiland sang from the ‘disturbing’ point of view of a sexual predator in “Sex Type Thing” in a new Rock.com.arinterview, despite not being like that at all. The quotes below are translated so aren’t exactly correct.

“Sex Type Thing” is one of your favorite topics, but Scott did not like it to be made mosh because the lyrics embodied the “perspective” of a rapist. As a band, how do you feel about that today?

Yes, I think it has a double message: the music is very energetic and powerful, but the lyrics differ a lot. I remember that Weiland told that he wanted to address it in the first person, from the point of view of the author of the act, which was quite disturbing. And we said, “Oh, man, now you’re going to believe that you really think like that!” It was very disturbing because he was an extraordinary and obvious person who did not reason in that way, at all. So at first we deliberated whether people really understood the message, but then we gave it to them, just because we knew that he was not like that.

And in effect, part of the Americans misunderstood it.

For a long time he had to go out and explain it. Although today, being a song of more than twenty-five years, everyone listens to the words and do not analyze so in detail what Scott was trying to say. Directly they get to full with the energy of the subject, they enjoy it and they do mosh. Many of our songs have that challenging feeling and it takes you a lot to understand what we really try to express. It’s great that you mentioned it, because I did not analyze it a lot. So thanks.

Fresh rock act Sleepkillers are back with an icy shot of post-grunge provocation on their new song, “So Low,” the second single from the supergroup that’s spearheaded by Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers and ex-Puddle of Muddmember Damien Starkey.

It follows last year’s lumbering guitar stomp from the crew, “Dirty Foot,” which was the premiere tune from the nu¨-metal-indebted duo. Rivers and Starkey are joined by both Saliva‘s Bobby Amaru and fellow Puddle of Mudd alum Adam Latiff in their live lineup.

“So Low” is set to appear on the burgeoning rockers’ self-titled, debut album, due out March 1. Below, watch the stylized lyric clip for the emotion-fueled jam, and see the track listing for the upcoming Sleepkillers album after the video.

In a new WAAF 107.3 interview, Pop Evil frontman Leigh Kakaty discussed visiting Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder’s home.

“Adam Kaspar, our producer who was Eddie’s and Pearl Jam’s producer, he’s like ‘Yeah, I gotta call Eddie, man. Bring you over to his house. We gotta just hang and you guys are pretty similar,’” Kakaty explained. “And I remember being like, ‘Yeah, you should do that. That’s cool. Really, what?’

“I’ll tell you one story that’s my favorite because I try to be respectful, but I looked at him and said, ‘I want to see your swag room.’ He goes, ‘What do you mean?’ ‘I’m talking about you Pearl Jam platinum, 50 bazillion sold, blah, blah blah.’”

“He laughs at me and kind of ignores me. So, we go walk in. He shows me the indoor basketball court that he’s got — in the center of the court is The Who logo — and we start walking up these stairs… and I’m like, ‘Stoooop, is that an MTV Moonman?’ And it’s broken to pieces and he’s got it as a doorstop. And so he looks at me and says, ‘Ahh. Obviously, you know what I think of MTV.’”

“We go to [one of] his bedroom[s],” Kakaty later said. “There’s a huge Brian Urlacher jersey and this Shaquille O’Neal circular bed, and then we go in this huge closet area, and he says, ‘Pull this book.’ Boom! This hidden doorway pops up. I’m talking about closet-sized space, and there’s the Pearl Jam platinum in a hidden compartment.”

Kakaty said the compartment actually doubles as a secret passageway down to Vedder’s garage, which the frontman uses to “dodge the crazies.” Elsewhere in the conversation, Kakaty digressed on how Vedder owns multiple properties near him to not only isolate himself but also store some other prized memorabilia, specifically his incredible collection of Chicago Bulls merchandise.

Smashing Pumpkins & System of a Down Members Tease Supergroup

Velvet Hammer Management’s David Benveniste posted a new photo of Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin with System of a Down members Shavo Odadjian and John Dolmayan in Los Angeles at the Troubadour with the caption, “New @systemofadown x @smashingpumpkins x @velvethammermgmt super group. ⚡️@shavoodadjian @chamberdrums @johndolmayan_ #SystemOfADown #TheSmashingPumpkins #SmashingPumpkins #VelvetHammer.” It’s unclear how serious he was actually being with the post.

Interestingly enough in 2009, after Billy Corgan fired Jimmy Chamberlin from The Smashing Pumpkins, John Dolmayan auditioned to replace Chamberlin, but Mike Byrne got the job instead.

A message from Corgan on The Smashing Pumpkins’ website at the time said, “In total, 12 drummers were auditioned [in Los Angeles] on Tuesday. An additional tryout could potentially be held in May due to such overwhelming response to the audition process.”

“A very positive experience”

“Overall, the drumming auditions were considered a very positive experience,” Corgan continues. “The talent in all the drummers that tried out was incredible. Some of the candidates include John Dolmayan of System of a Down and Frank Lenz, a past bandmate of guitarist Jeff Schroeder from The Lassie Foundation.”

“The talent in all the drummers that tried out was incredible.”

Corgan later dismissed Mike Byrne from The Smashing Pumpkins in 2014, and he was replaced by Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee for Monuments to an Elegy, while Rage Against The Machine’s Brad Wilk toured as drummer until Jimmy Chamberlin returned in summer 2015.
