FOO FIGHTERS Guitarist CHRIS SHIFLETT To Release ‘Hard Lessons’ Solo Album In June
Produced by Grammy Award-winning Dave Cobb, the disc features 10 new songs, including the lead single “Welcome To Your First Heartache”, which can be streamed below.
Ahead of the release, each digital pre-order comes with an immediate download of “Welcome To Your First Heartache” as well as the album track “This Ol’ World”, which was released earlier this month. Of the music, Rolling Stone praises, “…he fully brings the guitar-slinging pyrotechnics. A lick, a verse and a couple mean solos are all Shiflett needs to make a statement.”
Recorded at Nashville’s RCA Studio A, the album features Shiflett on electric guitar and Cobbon acoustic guitar as well as an all-star collection of studio musicians, including Chris Powell(Brent Cobb, Jamey Johnson) on drums and percussion, Brian Allen (Jason Isbell, Jamey Johnson) on bass, Michael Webb (Ashley Monroe, ELI YOUNG BAND) on keyboards and Paul Franklin (Vince Gill, DIRE STRAITS) on pedal steel and Kristen Rogers (Anderson East, Lori McKenna) on harmony vocals. The album also features a duet with Elizabeth Cookon “The One You Go Home To” and special guest guitarist Laur “Little Joe” Joamets on “This Ol’ World”.
Of the album, Shiflett comments: “I remember one night between FOO FIGHTERS gigs last year I went out for dinner with Dave Cobb to chit chat about making this record. He said he had a vision of me playing through an old Marshall JCM-800. So, when it came time to record, we found one on Craigslist, cranked it up and it was perfect.
“I think this record hits a little closer to mixing everywhere I’ve been musically into one big blender and comes out something a little different.
“Since it was my second time working with Cobb and Co. out there at RCA Studio A, I kind of knew what to expect as far as his process, so I intentionally didn’t overthink or over-demo the songs because I didn’t want to get too stuck on any ideas I brought with me. I couldn’t be more excited about the results.”
After recently wrapping tours with Cook, BLACKBERRY SMOKE and Kendell Marvel, Shiflettwill travel to Europe later this month for a series of sold-out shows across the U.K., Norway, Denmark and Sweden. Additional North American spring/summer tour dates to be announced soon.
“Hard Lessons” is Shiflett‘s fourth solo album and the second in collaboration with Cobb, who produced 2017’s widely praised “West Coast Town”.
Born in Santa Barbara and now based in Los Angeles, Shiflett is widely known as the guitarist for the FOO FIGHTERS as well as for his previous work with DEAD PEASANTS and NO USE FOR A NAME. In addition to his work as a musician, Shiflett is the creator and host of the biweekly podcast “Walking The Floor With Chris Shiflett”, which Entertainment Weeklynamed one of “the best podcasts of 2018” stating, “The lively, genial, and deeply knowledgeable host puts his musician guests — from critical favorites to superstars, and ranging from country to punk — at ease, allowing them to expound on everything from inspiration to gearhead talk. A must for fans actually interested in hearing about the music.” Past guests include Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam, Chris Stapleton, Sheryl Crow, Mike Ness, Steve Earle, John Doe, Sturgill Simpson, Lee Ann Womack, Vince Gill and more.

Hear Mötley Crüe’s “Kickstart My Heart” sung in styles of Deftones, RHCP, and Led Zeppelin / Greta Van Fleet
Vincent, whose “Ten Second Songs” channel is closing in on three million subscribers, is known for singing popular hits in multiple styles. For “Kickstart My Heart”, the YouTuber starts out by staying true to the original with his best Vince Neil impression, before delivering such styles as Deftones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and others.
A funny moment comes when he conjures up a massive Robert Plant-like wail, but the onscreen title of the style flicks back and forth between Led Zeppelin and Greta Van Fleet.
Vincent also mixes it up with the styles of Ricky Martin, the Saved by the Bell theme, Hall & Oates, and The Prodigy (in honor of the late Keith Flint), among others. Heck, he even throws in a little bit of everyone’s favorite punching bag, Imagine Dragons.

METALLICA’S KIRK HAMMETT GIVES UPDATE ON NEW TOOL ALBUM
Kevin RC Wilson / Melina Dellamarggio
Where’s the new Tool album? Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett may have just given a clue to how close we are. During a new interview, Hammett revealed Tool are currently dealing with the artwork for their fifth full-length album.
Members of Tool have publicly disputed the album’s potential release date. Vocalist Maynard James Keenan shot down drummer Danny Carey’s claim of an April release, adding a timeline of mid-May to mid-July is more realistic.
“I talk to [Tool guitarist] Adam Jones quite a bit, and the last thing I knew, he was dealing with artwork. So that is a good sign. If they’re dealing with artwork, it must be close,” Hammett told New Zealand radio station The Rock.
Psychedelic artist Alex Gray has contributed the artwork for Tool’s last two albums, Lateralus and 10,000 Days. Earlier this year, Gray spoke positively about working with Tool again, but wouldn’t confirm is he’s being tapped for the band’s new album.
“I haven’t heard any of the new music yet, and I can’t answer this question, but it is looking positive,” Gray told Revolver. “As far as other collaborations, there are still a few older things that have never been publicly shared and I can’t say whether they ever will, but if I get a chance to work with Tool again, it will be an honor.”
Tool posted a studio photo earlier this month, leaving some fans to believe the highly-anticipated album is in the can. To check out Tool’s 2019 tour dates, click here.
RAMMSTEIN REVEAL RELEASE DATE FOR FIRST ALBUM IN 10 YEARS
It’s almost here, Rammstein fans! The band just revealed the release date for their next studio album, which will be the first new full-length in a decade. The still-untitled effort is set to drop on May 17.
That’s not all. Fans should stay tuned today as Rammstein are set to release a new single and video for a song called “Deutschland.” The track will serve as the lead single from the upcoming release and the video premiere will take place at 6PM CET (that’s 1PM ET and 10AM PT for those stateside).
Rammstein have been teasing fans for most of the week with imagery and video from their new clip. Their most recent tease was a rather eye catching one with images of prisoners with nooses around their necks ready for a grim fate as dramatic music plays in the background. You’ll have to stay tuned to see what’s coming.
The German group’s last studio album was 2009’s Liebe ist für alle da. While they’ve been silent on the studio album front over the last decade, the band has reunited to play concerts in recent years.
